I have an Asus Transformer laptop (one of those dinky things which splits into a tablet plus keyboard) running Windows 8.1. For some considerable time now, the camera app hasn't been working, and I'd ignored it, until I tried to do a Zoom meeting the other day and found the webcam wasn't working either, which is a bit more vital, so I thought I'd look into the problem again.
When I click on the Camera tile I get "To get started connect a camera" (yet the model has a built-in camera). I've been hunting around on Google, but nothing I've tried has worked, so I thought I'd try asking here for advice. If I look in Device Manager under Imaging Devices (Intel Imaging Signal Processor 2400) everything seems to be fine. There are admittedly exclamation marks against the two camera sensors, HM2056 and AR0543, yet when I get Windows to check both the imaging devices and the sensors it claims everything's hunkydory. Tried uninstalling the imaging device and the camera sensors - they get reinstated just as they were on rebooting, and Windows still claims that everything's fine.
I finally clicked on "Properties" for the camera sensors and got
"This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE"
Sounds a bit drastic.
I don't know when the camera app stopped working, because I use it so infrequently, although I'm guessing it was probably after some OS update or other. There don't appear to be any previous versions of either the processor or the sensors which I can roll back to, and I'm a bit stumped as to what to try next, so any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thank you

For many Asus Transformer models, the camera driver came bundled with the Chipset driver.
If we reload that, there is a chance that it will start working again. It's not a question of being up-to-date with the driver, just reloading it.
If you type msinfo32 or sys into the Windows search, does it list the exact model of Asus Transformer? The T100 series is the one that people mention the most often that the camera goes missing in 8.1.

Thank you for that - I had no idea. It's a T200 in my case, rather than the more common T100. I could have asked on the Transformer forum, but I'm not sure I still remember my login details for that one.

If it is a T200TA, then this is the driver:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/T200TA/SOCPackage_Intel_BayT_T200TA_Win81_64_VER102.zip
There is also an F10 key that turns the camera on and off. You may want to check that in case it was turned off at some point.

My F10 is the mute button, I'm afraid, but I'll try the driver - thanks very much!

Oh dear. I tried installing the drive, but got this message:
"The setup program ended prematurely because of the following error:
The requested operation failed. A system reboot is required to roll back changes made."
Not sure what to do now - if anything.

This is the link to the manual, it may throw some light on the camera -

I am going to be away from base from 19 November to 5 December. Since it's called a 'holiday' my time on-line will probably be reduced and I may not reply to PMs as promptly as usual. During this period I expect to be enjoying fresh air, some good food, possibly a little beer and just generally relax !
